Rheingau

Magnetic powers

For several hundred years guests have been attracted to the Rheingau from all over the world

What's special about the Rheingau? Why is this small area of the planet so world-renowned? Location, location, location, answer the estate agents. Wine like no other - say wine growers. Pure romanticism - whisper dreamers. A perfect outdoor region - say sporty types. And what about Rheingauers? “Here you can put down roots”. You can sense it. Rheingauers are rooted in the soil.

Rheingau history (ies) and Rheingau pearls

“Gude” - this is as much as to say “hello, glad to see you”. You should take note of this Rheingau greeting so you can hit the right note in conversation. The tone is (sometimes) harsh, but always cordial. The word “stranger” is part of life in the wine villages. And if you have any questions they will also be answered. So don't be scared to try. They will have incredible stories to tell.

You come across Goethe and the von Brentanos at every turn in the Rheingau. The list of all the celebs, stars and starlets that linger in the Rheingau, is long. Is it any wonder when the area is just so wonderful. Whether in the style of Kloster Eberbach, on the terrace of Schloss Johannisberg with its great view, around the old water tower of Schloss Vollrads or in the hustle and bustle of the Drosselgasse - the Rheingau has many beautiful facets. The Rheingau sociability is also highly prized. This cannot be described but can be experienced in the wine and estate taverns where many Rheingauers stop for a bit to eat.

All roads lead to the Rheingau

Formerly people came by stagecoach, on horseback or on board a swaying barge, which was rather arduous, so the Rheingau is now a region that is perfectly linked to Germany's heartland. Autobahn, Deutsche Bahn and regular flights from and to Frankfurt am Main or Frankfurt Hahn - they all lead to the Rheingau.

Big events in the Rheingau:

„The Rheingau is a wonderful wine and cultural landscape at any time of the year which is increasingly developing into a jewel for the highest quality events and the development of wine and gourmet projects. A visit is always worthwhile - help yourself to some wine and culture!“

Sylvia Westermann, Managing director Rheingau-Taunus Kultur und Tourismus GmbH
